A drug suspect was arrested in a police sting when officers found illegal firearms and meth at his home in Thailand.

Santisuk was allegedly smuggling guns and crystal meth when he was detained near a mall in Bangkok on October 6.

He had arrived for a planned drug and gun exchange before spotting officers waiting for him at the scene.

When they moved in to arrest him, Santisuk reportedly panicked and bolted on foot.

Cops gave chase as he tried to escape, eventually catching and detaining the alleged smuggler.

They searched his vehicle and found 57.2 grammes of crystal meth.

Santisuk allegedly admitted the drugs belonged to him and said he had brought them to the meeting to deliver them.

He allegedly admitted having additional illegal items and led police to his rented room in Soi Nawamin 92, in Bangkok's Bueng Kum district.

Police searched the residence and seized 246 methamphetamine pills and a homemade firearm and two shotgun shells as evidence.

Authorities said the investigation began after Highway Police earlier stopped a motorcycle that had mistakenly entered a motorway.

During the interrogation, the rider was said to have let slip that he was meeting Santisuk to collect drugs and a gun.

Police then contacted the suspect through social media and arranged a meeting in the Sukhaphiban 1 area, where they planned to exchange drugs for a firearm.

Police Major Bandit Nualpan of the Highway Police Division said Santisuk was charged with possessing Category 1 narcotics for sale for commercial purposes and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

He added: 'Preliminary urine test results found no illegal substances in his system.

‘As the suspect sustained minor injuries while attempting to flee from officers during the arrest, we sent him to hospital for first aid.

‘After that, he and the seized items were handed over to the inquiry officer at Bueng Kum Police Station for further legal proceedings.'
