Scottish tourist, 41, 'beaten by Thai ex-girlfriend after telling her he loved a bar girl'
A Scottish tourist was allegedly beaten by his crazed Thai ex-girlfriend when he told her he had fallen in love with a bar girl.
The 41-year-old Scot was eating dinner when his former lover Nuanprang Saithongsuk, 49, confronted him at a restaurant in the seaside resort of Pattaya in eastern Thailand.
The holidaymaker reportedly told her he had moved on from their four-year relationship, before declaring his love for a much younger woman who worked at a nearby bar.
The jealous ex was said to have flown into hysterics, screaming at the holidaymaker as he tried to calm her down.
But Nuanprang lashed out at him. Claiming to be his wife, she grabbed a beer bottle and smashed it over his head, leaving him bleeding.
Staff then pulled the staggering Scottish man away from his rampaging ex-girlfriend before calling paramedics to the scene, just past midnight on August 27.
Footage shows Nuanprang, wearing a tight blue one-shoulder dress, smiling with glee and taking photos as officers bandaged the man's injuries. His white shirt was stained with blood from a large cut on his head.
She started shouting at him again while he was boarding an ambulance to Pattaya Memorial Hospital.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Thanya Udthong said the pair had been in a relationship for several years before splitting up.
He said: ‘The woman involved was identified as 49-year-old Nuanprang Saithongsuk. She had previously been in a relationship with the injured man for a few years, but they had already broken up.
‘She said she was jealous of another woman whom she saw with him, so she hit him over the head with a bottle.
‘They had a discussion and the victim, the Scottish man, told police that he did not wish to pursue legal action against her.'
Restaurant owner Noi Prissana said the Scot was a regular customer, although she did not know his name.
She added that he arrived with Nuanprang, with staff assuming they were a couple before the violence erupted.
Noi said: 'He was just sitting there eating when suddenly she picked up a glass and smashed it over his head.
‘The glass broke and there were pieces of glass around his head. Then she grabbed a soda bottle and was about to hit him again, but our staff rushed in and stopped her.
'If we hadn't got there in time, it could have been much worse. He could have died. There was blood everywhere.'
Despite his wounds, police said the tourist has declined to press charges.
Pattaya has become the country's flagship tourist destination, fuelled by the allure of bars, massage parlours, and cheap sex. It has been dubbed a 'p*rno Disneyland' by some Brits, who can find relationships and experiences not easily available in their homeland.
However, the region is now often seen as tarnishing the wider image of Thailand as a family-friendly holiday destination with stunning beaches, food and a rich history.
