Two Cambodian men arrested 'for attempted assault on Thai woman'
Two Cambodian men were arrested over an alleged attempted assault on a Thai woman.
Chanvesna Touch, 24, and Rathana Las, 22, seen in the video wearing white and red shirts, were drinking beer when they invited Patima Mahawong to join them on July 21.
CCTV footage shows the pair standing in a narrow alley before glamorous Patima - who was wearing a black coat and short black dress - passed between them on her way home in Bangkok.
She ignored their invitations and continued walking away, but the men followed her to her front door.
Patima broke out into a run as the man in red chased after her barefoot to avoid making noise. She rushed into her home, managing to slam the door shut and run upstairs.
The suspects briefly left the area, but later returned and quietly approached the property again.
The terrified woman said they were seen signalling each other to stay quiet as they tried to pry the door open. She then started screaming to alert her neighbours, causing the men to flee.
Patima and her sister filed a report with the police the following day. She also posted the CCTV footage, urging locals to help her track down the alleged harassers.
She said: 'Both of them lived and worked in the Khao San Road area and had wives. One of them had recently lost his job and had a young child.
'I was afraid they would attack me.'
Residents later recognised the suspects and confronted them on Thursday, July 23.
Photos showed the men with facial injuries after being beaten by the mob. They claimed they were drunk on the night of the incident.
Theeraphon Pluemthanom, a city law enforcement officer, said the pair have been handed over to the Chanasongkhram district station, where they were charged with 'attempted trespassing at night and causing fear and alarm to another person'.
He said: 'The incident occurred in front of the Chakraphong Mosque. Initially, they confessed to having been drinking and only trying to ask the woman for directions, but she said they followed her all the way to her house.
'The suspects were then taken to the station for legal proceedings.'
