A homeless man attacked a Vietnamese woman allegedly because he wanted to be the only fat person on the street.

Etsana Tanrattanapattanakul, 30, was said to have slashed Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, 29, with a cutter while she was walking along Soi Silom 5 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The chubby woman, who works for a local ad company, passed by the vagrant while going out for lunch when he allegedly charged at her with the weapon.

Nguyen screamed as the 265-pound man hacked at her before fleeing across the road. She was rushed to hospital and received 14 stitches for a bleeding gash on her arm.

Police later managed to track Etsana down through CCTV footage, which shows him fleeing across the median shortly following the attack on June 27.

Armed with tasers and long poles, officers traced the suspect to a nearby alley, where they found him resting in front of a closed shop.

They arrested an unkempt Etsana, his belly bulging above his waistband, and seized the cutter believed to have been used in the alleged attack.

Footage shows Etsana wearing handcuffs as he waddled barefoot into the Thung Maha Mek Police Station.

During questioning, he allegedly confessed to the attack, claiming he hates seeing overweight women because 'only he is allowed to be fat'.

Drug tests found no narcotics in his system, police said.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wichian Thiangphadung said Etsana was well known to locals because of his large build, and was often seen sleeping on sidewalks and by the roadside.

He added: 'The suspect was charged with assaulting another person resulting in bodily harm. He has been handed over to the inquiry officer for legal proceedings.

'After receiving treatment at the hospital, the victim came to Thung Maha Mek Police Station to verify the suspect's identity. She said she intends to pursue the case to the fullest extent of the law.'
