Two teenage girls, 14, drown while recording themselves playing in swimming pool

Two teenage girls drowned while they recorded themselves trying to venture into the deep end of a swimming pool.
The 14-year-old youngsters, Khao Hom and Fierce, reportedly dared each other to see who could go the furthest into the water in Pattaya, Thailand, on June 13.
They set up their phones to record themselves before wading into the pool with no lifeguards shortly after 5:30 pm local time.
But just two minutes later, the girls were seen struggling to stay afloat due to the sudden drop, before vanishing under the surface. They appeared to drag each other below the surface as they battled to stay afloat.
A boy, Bryan, was playing with his friends nearby when he noticed them lying motionless at the bottom of the pool.
Initially thinking they were just playing, he became alarmed when they failed to surface after several moments, and immediately sought help from nearby adults.
CCTV footage shows frantic villagers pulling the girls' bodies to the poolside, where the girls had propped up their phones against water bottles to record.
They were reportedly unresponsive with blood dripping out of their noses, and had no detectable pulse.
Paramedics pumped their chests in a desperate effort to revive them, but both girls were pronounced dead at the scene.
Devastated relatives dropped to their knees in grief as the youngsters were taken to hospital for post-mortem exams.
Fierce's mother, 42-year-old Khanittha Phawahan, said she had dropped her daughter off at the Royal Green Park housing estate, where the incident occurred, at around 4 pm after the girl finished traditional dance practice with Khao Hom.
She said: 'I knew Khao Hom's mother regularly took her daughter swimming after practice so I warned Fierce not to enter the water because I was afraid something might happen.
'I became worried when my daughter didn't contact me even though it was already late. I called her phone, only for a rescue worker to answer and break the tragic news. I never would have allowed her to go if I had known this would happen.'
Authorities said further investigations are underway to determine whether anyone should face responsibility for the girls' deaths.
